Press Release

Cummins Fire Power statement about EPA NSPS
Date: March 24, 2006

The US EPA is to issue a final rule by June 28, 2006, that implements Tier emission requirements in 49 states for emergency standby fire pump diesels (California has their own requirements under the CARB Airborne Toxic Control Measure (ATCM)). The rule is expected to state that conformance to the Tier 1 fire pump engine emission limits is required for any fire pump engine manufactured beginning July 1, 2006. This requirement applies to when the base engine is built by the engine manufacturer, NOT when the engine is up-fitted into a fire pump driver. The non-Tier 1 engine can still be up-fitted into a fire pump driver after July 1, 2006. The non-Tier 1 fire pump driver is expected to be required to be installed and commissioned within two years. Again, the final rule will be issued June 28th so the rules could change. Anit-stockpiling rules will apply.

All of the Cummins Fire Power engines, except for the CFP59-F55, already comply with the new EPA requirements. In fact, 9 of our ratings meet the strict Tier-2 standards. We will stop taking orders for the CFP59-F55 rating on May 15th. If you have any pending orders for this rating, please try to get the order in soon.

Cummins Fire Power is committed to updating our product line with the newest Cummins engine models. We will be releasing the first EPA Tier-3 certified fire pump drive engine in the near future. The CFP9E will have a top rating of approximately 325 horsepower. Look for availability mid year. The CFP8E is being obsoleted and replaced with the CFP9E.
