Fire Pump Controllers Tested for Compatibility
Date: April 11, 2006

NFPA-20 - Section 12.4.1.3 pertains to engines with ECM (Electronic Control Module) controls. Separate visible indicators and audible alarms are provided for the conditions - ECM Selector Switch in Alternate and Fuel Injection Malfunction. Two terminals were added to the traditional 12 terminal controller interface.

Terminal Number: 301 - ECM Selector Switch in Alternate

Terminal Number: 302 - Fuel Injection Malfunction

On March 13, 2006 Cummins Fire Power conducted testing on fire pump controllers from six major controller manufacturers. We asked each of the controller manufacturers to provide a diesel engine controller that would be tested with each of our electronic engines. We tested each controller with our CFP6E, CFP8E and CFP11E engines. The testing was to confirm each engine could be used with each controller without issue.

Diode Kit p/n 10442 has been shipped loose with each electronic Cummins Fire Power engine as of January 1, 2006. The diode kit is needed to stop a false warning on some controllers, and is very easy to install if needed. CFP will incorporate the diodes in all electronic engine instrument panels in the near future.

Compatibility Issues

Eaton - Cutler Hammer FD100-12L-N-A-L1-F Yes Requires PN# 10442 diode kit
Firetrol FTA1100-JL12N See Note None
Hubbel F30AB001 See Note None
Master Controls DCFRA-130X4 Yes None
Metron FD4-JW Yes Requires PN# 10442 diode kit
TornaTech GPD-N-12-F-BCE-10 See Note Requires PN# 10442 diode kit
  • Firetrol Note

    • CFP tested Firetrol model FTA1100-JL12N. This controller did not have the 301 and 302 circuits so we asked Doug Stevens for a comment. His comment is below. We have rolled circuits 301 and 302 into our standard product which should be hitting the street in the next couple of months, i.e. 301 and 302 will appear in every one of our controllers. If you have an electronic engine at the job site, you simply connect 301 and 302 in our controller to 301 and 302 in the engine instrument panel.
In these interim months pending the resolution of the incompatibilities, we have been monitoring each incoming order referring to the presence of an electronic engine on the job. If there's an electronic engine, we install the 301 and 302 circuits into the controller on the factory floor, and append our model number with suffix: "(-X) Electronic Engine."
       Interim Model Number:
      FTA1100-JL12N-X Electronic Engine 12VFTA1100-JL24N-X Electronic Engine 24V
By June of this year, the (-X) suffix will disappear in favor of the standard:Standard by June 2006....Model Number:
       FTA1100-JL12N 12V
    • FTA1100-JL24N 24V
  • Hubbel Note

    • CFP tested Hubbel model F30AB001. This controller did not have the 301 and 302 circuits so we asked Craig Miller for a comment. His comment is below.
    • The model number is LX3000 and it does support the additional circuits when needed. This was a controller I already had built that did not have those circuits. Just reference LX3000 and not the specific part number.
  • TornaTech Note

    • CFP tested TornaTech model GPD-N-12-F-BCE-10. This controller did not have the 301 and 302 circuits so we asked Daniel Gendebien for a comment. His comment is below.
    • The circuit 301-302 is mounted in our controller with our option A10. The controller you have tested was compatible to be connected to ECM and FIM. Please revise your table to mention "YES - option A10".

Joslyn Clark Controls, Inc. did not provide a controller for testing.
